Here I am in the blogging world! Yes, it is fun to grow, challenge myself and learn new skills.
Truth be told however, this was a huge step for me. While I love growing and learning, this has been a challenge for me and taken longer than I had expected. What finally helped me push forward and get it going??
Changing my questions was the key to break out of my procrastination. Clearly, asking, “Why is this so confusing?” or “Why am I so stupid?” was not helping.
Of course my favorite questions of all——
“What is my purpose in this?” Why is this activity worth my time and what do I want to accomplish? I strongly desire to provide an interactive format where past, present and future friends, and clients can become allies and share joys, struggles and ideas. These allies can give and receive new strategies, ideas and encouragement for this journey of life. Not just from me, but from everyone.
“What would I be willing to give up to accomplish this?” Once I looked at the procrastination from this point of view, I was able to see my frequent escaping into sci-fy or other mind numbing activity each time I approached the computer much of the culprit. I would also need to give up the impulse to know how to do everything up front.
Solution:: (Drum roll please)
Just answering these two questions helped clarify the solution. Writing out my purpose on a post-it and placing it on my computer allowed the vision of accomplishment to overtake any wasted time or alternate task! And the result —– It was finished. I still have a lot to learn and make it what I want it to be but I have taken the first step and am off!!
